Bowling in Nishigamo

A parent group at Riku's school arranged a bowling day at the (I now know) massive bowling alley just across the river from us. It was on Sunday afternoon, and the idea was for the parents to get to know each other a little better (I think just the grade 1 parents were involved).

Lots of kids there, but the bowling was for parents only ... Riku and Mirei busied themselves by running amok with the other children.

I can't believe how big the bowling alley is ... 52 lanes! It was lots of fun to bowl again (and nice to have warmed up at Brent's pre-wedding bowling night in September). The alley is so close, I'm thinking of joining a league. Some people are (actual) marathoners ... others are (wannabe) bowlers.

(But I promise not to buy a bowling ball.)

Mirei on her way to the bowling party.

We were in lane 52 of 52.

And a little video of Riku bowling ...

Just a couple of pics ... Mirei and Riku mailing birthday cards to Uncle Frank ... thanks to their Nana for reminding their daddy to make this happen ...

Fall Colours at Kiyomizudera

Akane and I spent a few hours at Kiyomizudera, one of Kyoto's more spectacular temples. This is also the first temple I visited when we came to Kyoto in 2002 a few months before Riku was born.

Even though it was a Monday, the temple was very crowded. These were taken with my camera phone, so they're not great (and I even brought our "real" camera but forgot that I had ...).
